INTRODUCTION

Cultural practice remain a formidable constraint which women face in relation to the operational effectiveness of rural development in Nigeria. Developmental strategies which emphasises privatisation, liberalisation and deregulation are seen as a mantra for rural development. These development strategies as they apply to the rural economy are reflected in the privatisation of resources and services, commercialisation of agriculture, expansion of agro-industries, deregulation of labour, liberalisation of international trade.

ABSTRACT

The characterisation of foreign capital transfers in Nigeria may seem to reflect the theoretical assumption that the transfers would be targeted at capital generative investments and enhance economic growth. But in application, there are contradictions between the theory and practice in Nigeria. This paper is a political economy examination of some aspects of the application of foreign inflows in Nigeria.
