What is LMS?
LMS stands for ‘Learning Management System’. A learning management system (LMS) as defined by Ellis and Ryann (2009), is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, and delivery of educational courses or training programs. It is a robust and sophisticated digital platform where learners and educators can interact on a real-time, 24/7 basis. Edo University Iyamho has adopted the CANVAS LMS, currently in use by various institutions around the globe.
Why CANVAS?
CANVAS is the LMS used by the best universities in the U.S.A and U.K such as; Harvard University, University of Washington, University of Texas, Stanford University, Yale University, Sunderland University, and many others. It is worthy of mention that all the Ivy League universities in the U.S.A except one, use CANVAS as their institutional LMS.
Edo University Iyamho is the first University in Nigeria and West-Africa to adopt CANVAS as its learning management system to deliver a full digital learning experience such as that obtainable in the Ivy League universities around the world to our students.
What will I find in my CANVAS?
- You will be able to access a comprehensive collection of course materials ranging from course lecture notes, presentation slides, e-textbooks, pictures, charts & illustrative diagrams, video links, audio materials, etc. You can be sure that these will greatly enhance your learning.
- Most of your course announcements and important course information will be on the LMS. You can send a message to your course lecturer on any issue relating to the course and he/she will respond to you promptly.
- Your learning is no longer restricted to on-campus learning; you can now learn anywhere and at any time.
- You will receive some of your assignments and quizzes/tests which you are to submit on the LMS. Also, all your assignment and test grades will be visible to you via the LMS.
- You will have the opportunity to assess your teachers and their courses. This will serve for quality assurance and control and ensure that you are indeed receiving quality education.
- Through the CANVAS Community, our students can positively interact with students in other universities from around the world, resulting in a more globalized educational experience.
- CANVAS's Calendar feature helps students to be better updated and organized for all their courses.
- Learning on the CANVAS LMS will greatly enhance your digital skills as well as other soft skills which are sure to give you a competitive edge over your peers from other Universities within the country.
- CANVAS has several add-on applications which your course instructors can add to their courses to further enrich the course.
- Parents/Guardians can also monitor activities of their wards in school including attendance in class, assignments, submissions, grades and assessments etc from the comfort of their homes.
You will discover other benefits of CANVAS for yourself. However, one other interesting thing for you to know is that CANVAS is really easy to use! It is actually easier than operating your smartphone.
Get a Laptop
It is mandatory for all Edo University Iyamho students to acquire laptops for optimum, hitch-free use and enjoyment of all the features that the CANVAS LMS provides.
