SUNDERLAND UNIVERSITY TEAM VISITS EDO UNIVERSITY IYAMHO

One of the fastest growing and 3rd best universities in Nigeria, Edo University Iyamho has received more commendations for excellence teaching and learning with state-of-art facilities that conform with the 21st century. It would be recalled that Edo University was recently placed as 3rd best university in Nigeria by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and recently bagged the most “Innovative Top Best University in Nigeria” among several other awards.

The latest commendation was made by the team leader, Mr. Ian Moody, Director of International studies, University of Sunderland, United Kingdom, during a visit to the Edo University Iyamho for the purpose of consolidating on the Memorandum of Understanding earlier signed by both universities.

The Sunderland delegates led by the Director of International Studies, Mr. Ian Moody were conducted round the Faculties, Hostels and Entrepreneurship Development Centre of the University by Dr. Anthony Kifordu, Director of Edo University International Liaison in order to further strengthen collaboration between the two universities. The team from Sunderland expressed satisfaction with the level of infrastructure at Edo University Iyamho which they stated was comparable with the best in the world.Mr. lan Moody further stated that: "We have discussed and look at the curricula of the universities in several areas where we agreed, the harmonization of the two sides, we do find that we have a lot of things in common, a lot of things we can work on as a young university and we are looking at areas we can explore to make delivery of education to our interested parties in the best form of education we can deliver".

Speaking with journalists, the Director of International Studies Mr. Ian Moody said that the University of Sunderland is ranked amongst the best universities in the world and provide a multi-culture community for staff and students thereby making it a great option for partnership with Edo University Iyamho.

Also speaking, the principal contact for Edo University Iyamho, Mr. Wisdom Okoye said that the state government has done a monumental work at the Edo University Iyamho and thus rightly deserve to be placed on the world academic map. This he said increased their confidence to be able to get what will serve as a mutually beneficial partnership with the Edo University Iyamho in the areas of teaching, learning and research for both staff and students

In an interactive section with the management of Edo University, one of the delegates, Mr. Matthew Garada made a special presentation of Sunderland University to the institution where he pointed out that the University is one of the designated routes in the United Kingdom for international students.

On his part, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Edo University Iyamho, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor expressed happiness with the development saying that the MOU will be of a symbiotic benefit to both Universities. The delegates also had audience with the students who will have the opportunity to travel abroad for collaboration on agreed programmes.
