Brief Course Description
This course reveals the crucial theoretical and practical tools needed to understand the contemporary
international system. Precisely, the objective of the course is to acquaint students with the historical
survey of the evolution of the international system and the establishment of the modern state system.
It features the early organized groups, inter-state relations and the issues which necessitated the
emergence of the modern state and the Westphalia Treaty. It also focuses on the nature requirements
and instruments of the modern state. It explains the concepts of state, sovereignty, and territoriality,
