Abstract

The storage environment can have a drastic impact on the stabilization of bioherbicides .Optimization of shelf life is critically important for biocontrol products containing living microorganisms. The wild and mutant strain of Lasiodiplodia pseudotheobromae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were formulated in multi-combination into pestal granules with the additions of adjuvants and designated as BH1,BH2,BH3,BH4,BH5 and BH6 . After solid based formulation, formulated bioherbicidal products were conditioned at room temperature (28oC), refrigeration temperature (6°C) and deep freezer temperature (-20oC) for 6 months. The phytotoxic activity of the ‘Pesta’ granular formulation stored at -20oC was also examined on sorghum and Tridax procumbens . The longest shelf-life in term of the viability of the bioherbicidal agents used was found in formulated products stored at -20 °C temperature and with formulation from BH4. The viability of the bioherbicides are in the following orders: BH4>BH2>BH6>BH3>BH1>BH5. BH4 showed the highest activity compared to other formulations by reducing the root and shoot of Tridax procumbens to a dry weights compared to other formulations. BH4 among other formulations also lead to increase in the amount of grain yield and 1000-grain weight of sorghum plants compared to uninoculated plants. The temperature had a renounced effect on the shelf life of the formulated products during storage. On the whole ,the use of Pesta granules formulated from multi combination of wild and mutant strain of Lasiodiplodia pseudotheobromae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa could help in achieving a sustainable agriculture application of a bioherbicide.
